Sherwoods Top Of The Class

Sherwood Laboratories is now one of the largest digital schools photography operations in the UK and this year celebrates its' 20th birthday. We spoke to Glyn Bagley, who is justifiably proud to run such a successful family business.

Five Fujifilm Frontier DIPP Schools Systems in operation

"Keeping a sharp eye on customers' needs has always been our prime concern," said Glyn. "That, combined with employing the latest in digital technology, has helped us to where we are today - and ensured that while others in the market have struggled and some even gone out of business, we are in the fortunate position of running to maximum capacity.

"Last year we made further significant investments in equipment and a total revamp of the lab and now have state of the art facilities - including four Fujifilm optical minilabs and five Fujifilm Frontier DIPP Schools Systems. The benefits have been exceptional - including increased productivity, simpler user interface and improved workflow and the ability to customise proofing packages.

"During the 15 years I've been involved in the business, it's fair to say we've seen dramatic change in the market - new requirements, new digital technology, higher customer expectations and increased competition to name just a few areas.

More than 1 million schools packages pass through Sherwood's packing department every year. Up to 92 staff are needed to fulfil the orders at Sherwood Laboratories.

"We feel that our continued success and growth is really down to knowing our customers and being able to provide what they want, when then need it." Cliff Harris, of Cliff Harris Photography, London, has been using Sherwood for over 15 years: "Without a doubt, Sherwood provides fantastic quality and customer service. The business reflects the best qualities of a family run company - that people really matter, staff and clients alike - together with knowledge of the industry and technological ability that is second to none.

"The fact that they print onto Fujicolor Crystal Archive Professional Paper is another major strength. Particularly in the schools market it's crucial that the images last and with this paper the colour quality is excellent and the skin tones perfect - and above all it stays true over time.

New technology is a vital part of Sherwood's schools operations

Fujifilm wishes Sherwood Laboratories a happy 20th Birthday and many years of continued success.
