MPS goes large with Joe Cornish
Established over 50 years ago MPS is still a family run business today. Originally founded by Percy Fountain - famed for being a truly 'mobile' photographer due to his passion for motorbikes - the business prides itself on being one step ahead of the game.
MPS offers specialist services such as large format digital printing. |
Following in his father's footsteps, Percy's son Bas now owns and runs the business with his family. An early investor in digital technology, the lab has more experience and offers a wider range of services than many others in the area, ensuring continued success where others have failed.
While offering all of the image processing services you would expect from a full spec prolab, MPS has quite literally expanded its offering to include specialist services such as large format digital printing.
Lab Manager Jeff Heads keeps an eye on the workflow, which now includes orders from www.digitalab.co.uk |
"We always knew that quality is the most important factor when printing images, and had experimented with inkjet technology, but it just didn't make the grade. That's when we started looking at other technology on the market," said Bas.
"After careful consideration we invested in a Lightjet digital printer, which allows us to print straight onto Fujicolor Crystal Archive paper -
up to 8 x 4ft in one section - and has helped us to work with pro photographers such as Joe Cornish."
"MPS provides an excellent service - I use them specifically for large format printing from digital files," said Joe. "Images are usually captured on 5x4 Fujifilm Velvia, scanned and saved to CD. MPS then prints the images onto Fujicolor Crystal Archive Paper. Longevity of image quality is of paramount importance and the combination of specialist finishing onto Fujifilm paper creates, what is for me, the ultimate digital print."
Jill Roe, General Manager, ensures the quality of the work is up to standard |
MPS has also branched out geographically.
The launch last year of its online ordering website (www.digitalab.co.uk) enables the lab to service the needs of professional photographers throughout the country and abroad.
"If Dad were still alive, he'd be amazed at how the business has changed - especially in recent years. We're proud that by constantly focussing on quality, our business has successfully evolved and grown."
