School Success for Braiswick
When Braiswick wanted to update its minilabs to digital technology, it considered the performance of its Fujifilm DiPP labs over four years and decided that the next generation Frontier minilab had to be a contender.
When the Frontier systems were demonstrated, IT manager Cam Chau and MD Nigel Wheatman were so impressed by the speed, quality and easy chemistry management, they ordered not one but three Frontier 390s, which were installed in February.
The Frontier 390 offers extra large capacity and fast throughput and can print approximately 2,200 6"x 4"prints per hour from 35mm film. The automatic film feeder can load up to 20 rolls of negative film at the same time. In addition, the automatic sorting system allows up to 25 different orders to be sorted and stacked for easy filing and delivery. As a result, Braiswick can now turnaround work that previously took three days in just one day, so cutting overtime costs and pleasing its 750,000 individual schools customers with faster print deliveries.
Braiswick supplies schools photography throughout England and parts of Scotland and with more than 50 full-time photographers and 40 office staff, including lab technicians in Manningtree Essex, Nottinghamshire and Kent, print volumes are massive.
But there is life in the old DiPP’s yet and the acquisition of adjacent premises to Braiswick’s gives the lab a whole new challenge to enter the consumer D&P market and with the introduction of an Epson 10600 printer, Braiswick can offer large format prints from 44 inches to 20 metres.
“We can offer competitive pricing with the usual services from one hour to five days, either by mail order or by dropping in to our new premises,” said Cam Chau.“We’re targeting the thousands of people who know the quality of our work and services from our photography of their children and have secured an arrangement with some of our school customers to display mail order envelopes in the schools.
“With promotions in the local press and other direct marketing activity, we plan to create a lot of interest amongst the mums and dads before the end of term, so we can make the most of summer holiday pictures.”
